Food from our Travels

Image
There is this little bookstore tuck deep in the maze of little shops and alleys at Sg Wang Plaza which is my favourite hang out place during lunch hour. It's basically an old magazine shop and holds heaps and mounds of treasure for those who don't mind judging books by its covers. You see, every magazine is wrapped and sealed in clear plastic so you never get to flip through it like you would at a regular magazine store. Most of the magazines there are back issues of foreign titles from the US, Australia or Europe and are never ever found in any other bookstore. I usually pick out the ones I like, and note their titles and then rush back to Google them to see if they're worth buying. So when I spot an issue that's two months old, it goes to the top of my list cause that's practically brand new! The best part is, what would usually cost RM28-RM40 would only be beetween RM9.90-RM15.90. That's a steal!!! It's still a lot to pay for a magazine but I supposed it&

Music Monday: Little Joy

Image
I was just poking around online and I came across this wonderful band called Little Joy . Just their name alone is pretty and they're sorta amazing! Little Joy is a Brazilian/American rock band formed in 2007 by Los Hermanos singer/guitarist Rodrigo Amarante, The Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti and Binki Shapiro. 'Next Time Around' is just the perfect tune as I get ready to leave for the beach at the end of the week! :D

Life

Image
www.postsecret.com I've been thinking about death a lot lately... I don't mean to sound so morbid on a sunny Sunday afternoon. But I guess that's just one of the things people think about when they're not exactly having the best of times. I wonder what my last words would be, if i would get the chance to tell people how I feel, or who the last person I hug would be. I know that I'd give my organs away and I know all my books would be well-loved. But I always wonder if i would have said all i needed to say, or done all that I've needed to do. I know it's something I won't ever know but it just makes me think. A whole lot more than is necessary. After reading the secret above from PostSecret , it was like a reminder that life's too short for you to be thinking bout death. I should be doing things and not putting them off. I should meet people cause you never know what distance might keep you apart and I should always be grateful for life, cause there

Tuesday's Threes

In an attempt to be more observant, I'm starting a new Tuesday segment dedicated to the world around me. I'll be observing three things which are interesting and bringing them to life here, so you can imagine with me. First: I was having ice-cream today and I realise, people stare when you lick an ice-cream cone. No matter how discreet I was in eating my ice-cream, people were staring! Which of course made me really self-conscious. Determined to enjoy my ice-cream, I said, "...pshaw!" and licked away. Second: While waiting for the train, I saw a guy - handsomely dressed, scribbling in a notebook. It wasn't a particularly grand notebook or datebook, just a regular lined notebook with dog-eared edges. Every so often, he'd pause, look far off into the distance and then as if flooded by inspiration, he'd bend over his notebook and write with speed as if he were chasing the words down from his head. Third: We've been having grey sky mornings fo

Music Monday: The Audreys

Image
Its a little late in the day but I just had to share my top pick for Music Monday. I just came across this song by The Audreys - a band from Adelaide, Australia and it's hauntingly beautiful~ They're a bit folksy and bluesy and although their earlier music sounds a little too dreary for my liking, this new album seems pretty promising!

Teenage Dream

Image
I had this really vivid dream that I was at a wedding party and the lights went off. And suddenly the intro to Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' came on and my friends and I got out of our seats and started dancing... I think we were doing a Glee improv and we were singing and dancing in synchrony like we'd choreographed the whole thing. Some people were enjoying it, while the older folks - not so much. And then the bride and groom walks in dancing to the song too! They were doing the solos and totally nailing it. The groom actually sounded like Darren Criss in my dream. And then I woke up. Happy. What a great start to my Friday after in incredibly depressing week. There's hope for the weekend after all!

Together

My dad happens to like the author Khalil Gibran and after hearing so much about him, i decided to look him up. Stumbling across some excerpts of his work, i've picked up this one to share with you. With the number of weddings taking place this year, I think it's a beautiful piece to share :) The Prophet by Khalil Gibran – Marriage You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore. You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days. Ay, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God. But let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the sa

Tuesday's Threes

In an attempt to be more observant, I'm starting a new Tuesday segment dedicated to the world around me. I'll be observing three things which are interesting and bringing them to life here, so you can imagine with me. First: As i drive to work along the MEX expressway, I arrive at a bend which always takes my breath away. It's my first glimpse of the KL Cityscape set before cool blue skies and cotton candy clouds. At one particular spot, KL Tower lines up with Times Square and KLCC and sometimes it’s these little architectural marvels that get me excited about working in the big city. Second: Chivalry is not dead in this big City. Today I saw a young man offer his brolly to two of his female colleagues while he walked ahead in the pelting rain towards his office (I assume) in Bukit Bintang. Third: It's funny what you overhear in the streets if only you will yourself to stop and listen. A girl in an incredibly short skirt wonders aloud, "What's the d

Music Monday: Sugarland

Image
Now this would be the perfect theme song for my Monday morning! I sooo don't wanna be at The Big Corporation today after the lazy weekend I've had... but owhwell... Sugarland is fast becoming my happy-feel-good band and everyone could do with a lil' bit country now and then. Sugarland consists of singer–songwriters Jennifer Nettles (lead vocals) and Kristian Bush (background vocals, lead vocals, mandolin, acoustic guitar, and harmonica). Jennifer does this 'Shaggy' impersonation in some of her songs which i absolutely love! Check out some of their live concerts too. Looks real fun! Now what are the chances of Sugarland making an appearance in Malaysia? hmm....
