Music Monday : Brittany Howard

Image
This video is all kinds of happy! Should everyone's drive home from work be filled with music and singing and foot shuffles? Why, YES of course!  Brittany Howard  is the lead singer of Alabama Shakes , one of my favourite blues rock bands. Her debut solo album, Jaime, comes out in September this year and I can't wait!

New Life

Image
This month, we experienced a tremendous loss with the passing of a family member. My uncle Allan was a fun, loving and remarkable man who was taken from us too soon but will be forever remembered. Before he passed, we visited him in hospital and he shared that he was writing a song. He only had a few lines but he sang what he had and it got him through the scary days of test after test. A couple of weeks later, his condition worsened. I came home after a particularly tough hospital visit and sat in my living room praying. I had a feeling that this song needed to be written. It was to be our song which triumphed over death. New Life Written by Allan Alexander Ignatius & Melisa Ann Music by Jason Teoh Verse 1 When I am troubled and greatly weighed My heart pants and my words they fail In Jesus I will hope and put my trust For You O Lord, strengthen my heart Chorus Pin it on the cross Your sickness and pain Pin it on the cross Your troubles and your shame...

Music Monday: The Regrettes

Image
This band reminds me of something out of the 90s riot grrrl era! They are a relatively new punk rock band and some of their tracks have an edgy alternative rock or surf rock feel to. Their lyrics are pretty genius too and the lead singer Lydia Night's only 16!!

combination

Now i couldn't wait for Music Monday's to post this video cause I'm just so excited about the awesome combination of a gorgeous song and beautiful dance that's in this. I couldn't find this version of Valerie anywhere! It's one of the best versions I've heard so far. And the dancing... owh the dancing... stops and pauses that fill spaces, movements that draw you and find you holding your breath... These are just some of the few things you'll notice when watching the   Movement Lifestyle videos. Love!

Switchfoot - Restless

Image
OWh what a birthday gift! New Switchfoot video! RESTLESS I am the sea on a moonless night Calling falling, slipping tides I am the leaky, dripping pipes The endless, aching drops of light I am the raindrop falling down Always longing for the deeper ground I am the broken, breaking seas Even my blood finds ways to bleed Even the rivers ways to run  Even the rain to reach the sun Even my thirsty streams  Even in my dreams I am restless, restless, restless Looking for you I am restless I run like the ocean to find your shore Looking for you I am the thorn stuck in your side I am the one that you left behind I am the dried-up doubting eyes Looking for the well that won't run dry Running hard for the other side The world that I've always been denied Running hard for the infinite With the tears of saints and hypocrites Oh, blood of black and white and grey Oh, death in life and night in day One by one by one We let our rivers run I can hear you breathing I can feel you leading ...

Switchfoot - KL

Awesome video Michelle managed to take at the KL leg of the Switchfoot Asian tour. This is one of my all-time favourites!

Teenage Dream

Image
I had this really vivid dream that I was at a wedding party and the lights went off. And suddenly the intro to Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' came on and my friends and I got out of our seats and started dancing... I think we were doing a Glee improv and we were singing and dancing in synchrony like we'd choreographed the whole thing. Some people were enjoying it, while the older folks - not so much. And then the bride and groom walks in dancing to the song too! They were doing the solos and totally nailing it. The groom actually sounded like Darren Criss in my dream. And then I woke up. Happy. What a great start to my Friday after in incredibly depressing week. There's hope for the weekend after all!

Jaeson Ma - Love

Music Monday: Lissie

Growing up in high school, I listened to Metallica and absolutely loved the song, "Nothing Else Matters". And I especially loved the version in the S&M album . We had a Live DVD/VCD version and I probrably watched "Nothing Else Matters" and "Enter Sandman" over and over again! I mean it's an amazing song. The guitar solos are orgasmic and ahh well you get the picture. So anyways... I've always wanted to do a cover of them too. But it's been done like over fourty times maybe and I think even the Vienna Boys' Choir did a version of that song. But what I haven't really seen is a good female cover. That is... until Lissie . (No offense to Shakira. I'm sure her cover was great too!) Apparently, Lissie has had her songs appear on Grey's Anatomy, House, The OC, SYTYCD etc. Well, check it!
